Unpaid / Volunteer Position | Approx. 2–4 hours per month | Remote
Overview:
The Committee on Specialized Ministry of FCM is seeking dedicated and discerning members to support and uplift ministers serving in diverse and non-traditional contexts. This committee affirms and advocates for ministry beyond the pulpit—such as chaplaincy, spiritual direction, pastoral counseling, justice work, and other emerging expressions of spiritual service.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and evaluate applications for Ecclisiastical Endorsement in accordance with FCM’s criteria and values
Provide thoughtful, compassionate feedback and support to ministers exploring endorsement or recognition in specialized fields
Collaborate on developing and maintaining clear, accessible standards and resources for those engaged in or discerning specialized ministry
Participate in the ongoing theological and pastoral conversation about what “ministry” means in modern, progressive, and Spirit-led contexts
Attend monthly committee meetings (virtual) and assist with occasional policy or program review
Qualifications:
A strong commitment to FCM’s mission of inclusive and Spirit-filled ministry
Experience in or familiarity with specialized ministries (e.g., chaplaincy, counseling, community organizing, spiritual care in healthcare or justice systems)
Pastoral sensitivity and ability to offer peer support and guidance
Clarity of thought and writing—especially in the context of review, reflection, and correspondence
Willingness to engage in collaborative discernment with colleagues across the country
