A Lament for These Times

Take a deep breath. Place both feet on your ground. Roll your shoulders. Relax your jaw.
Light a candle if you wish. Set your space up for peace.
—
God of all mercies and light, be here with us now, in this space.
Our country and our world so desperately need you.
We come to you in anger, in sadness, in frustration, in fear.
We come to you in sorrow, in despair, in deep lament.
Fill our spirits with the knowledge of your goodness, of your steadfast love, and of your ultimate justice, which flows like a river.
Inflame in us your spirit of truth and liberation.
Your spirit of righteousness and peace.
Your spirit of freedom and of love.
You are on the side of the poor and of the oppressed. Help us to be on their side as well.
Help us to respond where there is a need.
To show up during a crisis.
To mend broken hearts and fight for what is right.
In your merciful, powerful, and just name, we pray.
Amen.
