Sacred Moments: A Poem

Sacred moments, how are these defined? Are they marked by goosebumps and hallelujahs intertwined? Are they comprised of rituals and ordinances, washing feet, baptism, and partaking of bread and wine? How do we describe a sacred moment or sacred space? What is sacred and how can I be sure when it truly takes place?

Sacred; a holiness, separated from the normative, the moment of body, soul, spirit connectedness. A sense of peace, inner joy, and rest. The kind of space that reminds you of God’s providence, or God‘s omniscience, or omnipotence, or simply bask in the love and promises found in God’s presence.

Divine moments occur on a daily basis, yet we miss them because we look for the oasis or some other extravagant replacement. As a chaplain I see them regularly with staff and patients, if I have patience.
