APRIL 16 at 5:30pm PT / 8:30pm ET: Creating Communities for Individuals Returning from Incarceration
Every year approximately 700,000 individuals are released from our nation’s prisons. They represent one of the most “invisible” of the oppressed people groups in this country. This webinar points out areas of oppression along with the challenges those returning from incarceration face internally and externally. Within three years of release, 49.7% are either re-arrested or re-incarcerated.
We are called as those who imitate and represent the heart of Christ, to face down oppression, declare injustices to those in power, demand restorative justice and be a healing balm to those who find themselves on the wrong end of broken systems.
This 90-minute webinar will explore eleven areas that have been associated with re-incarceration of individuals who are engaged in the reentry process.
The focus will be to engage faith communities in understanding these areas and proactively develop ways to assist individuals in finding the resources and guidance for their journey back to self-sufficiency.

This webinar will be led by FCM Administrator, Randy Dawson. Randy spent 12 years as a volunteer and staff chaplain inside the prison system, both adult and juvenile.
Randy’s focus is “Reentry Readiness” and seeing the needs that the Incarcerated Individuals have, both pre-release and post-release first hand, has been crucial. Randy currently leads an Interfaith reentry readiness program that includes both “inner work” and “outer work” for the participants. Inner work includes grief work, shame / guilt work, addiction / recovery planning, relationship re-building, financial literacy, etc. Outer work includes each participant creating from the ground up their own working non-profit organization model. In this process they experience mission and vision statement development, goal setting and goal achievement techniques, creating their by-laws, developing a board, 501(c)(3) planning and mock filing, and many other topics that are designed to stretch and challenge to focus on a larger view of our world.
